Western Turf Wars: The Politics of Public Lands Ranching

Profession or Area of Expertise

California Director, Western Watersheds Project and member of the Sierra Club National Grazing Committee

Personal Statement

I live in Glendale, California (near downtown Los Angeles. I work as a substitute school teacher. In a volunteer capacity, I act as a Sierra Club contact concerning livestock grazing in part of the Golden Trout Wilderness, CA (in the southern part of the Sierra Nevada range). My primary area of focus has been allotments that are grazed by cattle owned by Anheuser-Busch Companies, Inc. As such, I monitor and photodocument conditions on the ground, prepare written analyses, and act to educate the media concerning grazing impact generated by this giant corporate permittee. I also work closely with local fishing activists concerning this issue.
